This workshop is meant to give you a foundational understanding of meditation and mindfulness — the different styles and how it all works. Great for beginners looking start a new practice or experienced meditators looking to understand and explore what else is out there.
We will use the framework provided by Shinzen Young to explore the attentional skills that make up an effective meditation practice and apply this understanding to the two major types of meditative practice: Vipassana (or Insight) and Shamatha.
We will also explore the differences and complementary nature of “bottom up” vs “top down” practices.
Overall this workshop is meant to make the landscape of meditation make sense to you and help you explore what type of practices work best for you.
Don’t let the long run time intimidate you, there will be breaks, movement activities, and lots of interaction and discussion, it’s not a sitting marathon!
