40-Hour Restorative Yoga Teacher Training

with Taryn Diamond

April 2026

Over two weekends, Taryn and guest faculty, Indu Vasisht, offer a comprehensive introduction to facilitating restorative yoga.

The individual experience of restorative yoga will be as diverse as we are and that experience changes day to day, moment to moment. Because no shape is one-size-fits-all, this program will equip you with problem-solving tools and clarity on just what we are doing when we take shapes with our bodies.

The result: you will become a restorative yoga facilitator who aspires to lead restful group practices with clarity, care, and enthusiasm.

From the Micro to the Macro

-We start by honing in on the intention behind each restorative yoga posture and from there, develop strategies to curate each pose to the student in front of you.

-From a deep study of the individual (working one-on-one with the body in front of you), we expand our skills to hold space and guidance for a group of students.

-The macro skills used when leading a restorative practice include considerations on group dynamics, an appreciation for our individual privileges and stories, and a recognition of how systemic oppression impacts all of us uniquely. More specifically, this program makes space for a discussion of how racialized trauma impacts both the individual and the collective.

From the Gross to the Subtle

-We build our knowledge from the ground up with a refresher on how the hip, shoulder and spine move. We use this tangible knowledge to better understand and assess restorative shapes. We honour the physical aspect to restorative yoga by spending time on pose templates and their many permutations.

-We consider the subtle aspect of our roles as facilitators and as encouragers of nervous system respite. We toggle traditional and new theories on the nervous system. And we welcome in new perspectives on trauma-informed, anti-oppressive approaches to facilitation.

2026’s Guest Faculty

Indu Vashist will offer us two modules:

Module 1: Embodying Somatics

Each training day will begin with participants being led through a full-body somatic sequence with space and time afterwards for debriefing. As we gain experience with the sequence, we will enhance our appreciation of somatic movement and the potentials of pairing this modality with restorative yoga.

Module 2: The Somatic Self in the Somatic Collective

Indu offers a workshop that seeks to understand how our somas (mind-bodies) react to different systemic stimuli in society. Participants will expand their awareness of how they exist in the world and how their social location informs their individual experiences (and that of others.) Participants will gain a deeper understanding of how the somatic collective and habitual patterning in our personal somatic selves shows up in our experiencing and facilitating of restorative yoga.

This program will:

  • Ground the modality of restorative yoga within the larger context of yoga philosophy.
  • Train you in teaching eleven restorative yoga postures, their modifications, and restorative yoga sequencing.
  • Explore the basics of anatomical movements to better enable you to see bodies and assess structure and postures to maximize rest.
  • Define your own teaching steps and gain practice with teaching poses in sequence.
  • Learn the art of teaching restorative yoga with templates for themes, creative group-based exercises, and ample resources for opening classes creatively.
  • Equip participants with the tools to walk away and teach a restorative class, and enhance their asana classes with restorative practices.

Testimonials:
”You are a truly gifted educator. You brought the group together in a trust-filled, respectful cocoon from which we were reluctant to emerge. We are now butterflies ready to share restorative yoga with the world.”

“Taught my first restorative class tonight and I just wanted to say how useful your restorative yoga teacher training was! I was diving deep into my notes and I felt like I had you in my brain giving me tips as the class went along. In fact, I even had my manual tucked away at the front of the room, just in case. It gave me confidence knowing it was there!”
